About

Dr. Xuguo Zhang holds a BSc and MS degree in Applied Mathematics from Xi’an Jiaotong University and University College London, respectively. In August 2020, he earned his PhD in Air Quality Modeling and Data Assimilation from Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where he was supervised by Chair Prof. Jimmy Fung. Following his PhD, he became a Hong Kong Research Talent Hub (RTH) Postdoc Fellow and later a Research Associate, continuing his work with Prof. Fung's air quality modeling group in the Department of Mathematics at HKUST. Since April 2023, he has been visiting Yale University as a Postdoctoral Laboratory Associate, focusing on air pollution and health co-benefits, working with Prof. Kai Chen as part of the CHEN (Climate, Health, and Environment Nexus) lab.

Dr. Zhang has served as a Co-I in a Collaborative Research Fund (CRF) awarded by the Resarch Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong and as a Co-I in a National Natural Science Foundation of China - RGC (NSFC-RGC) Joint Research ProjectHis research endeavors have received support from esteemed funding sources, including the RGC of Hong Kong, the Key Project of the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC), NSFC-RGC, as well as various levels of government, such as the Hong Kong government and the Greater Bay Area government.

Dr. Zhang's research interests include multi-scale air quality modeling, health exposure science, data analysis and assimilation, dynamic emission projection and mitigation, and the interactions between climate change, air quality, and health exposure.
